Students timestamping server. The basic idea behind block chain

Students of IIT-Bombay got a chance to do friendship with beautiful and intelligent robot Sophia in their annual event techfest on December 30.

This intelligent robotic girl is an authorized citizen of Saudi Arabia. This robot was publically introduced in South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in mid-March 2016. Sophia was activated on April 19, 2015. In October 2017, the robot became a Saudi Arabian citizen, the first robot to receive citizenship of any country.1 In November 2017, Sophia was named the United Nations Development Program’s first ever Innovation Champion, and the first non-human to be given any United Nations title. It is created by Hanson Robotics in collaboration with AI developers, including Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc.  who built her voice recognition system, and Singularity NET, which powers her brain. The robot is modeled after actress Audrey Hepburn. Its concept is similar to the ELIZA that was a computer program developed in 1964-1966 at the MIT Artificial intelligence laboratory by Joseph Weizenbaum. It gave users an illusion to talk to machine. It uses the pattern matching and substitution methods for simulation. It was a ‘chatterbot’ that responded exactly like a Rogerian psychotherapist. ELIZA replies were scripted according to it.

According to the Sophia’s manufacturer, David Hanson, she uses artificial intelligence, visual data processing and facial recognition. Her gestures and facial expressions resembles to human. She is also able to answer certain questions and to make simple conversations on predefined topics (e.g. on the weather). This robot has pre-written scripts and phrasal answers to some specific questions. The information is shared in a cloud network which allows input and responses to be analyzed with block chain technology.

The Block chain is a transformational technology in which continuously growing list of records, called blocks, are linked and secured using

cryptography. Each block typically contains a hash pointer as a link to a previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. These blocks are cannot be changed.  A block chain database is managed autonomously using a peer-to-peer network and a distributed timestamping server. The basic idea behind block chain is that there’s no any single authority to decide the authenticity rather a distributed environment is provided where all can put details. These details are entered into a lodger with the restriction to be changed and can be excessed by everyone in future.
